The hive

UK food safety is being compromised by the declining bee population. We rely on bees to pollinate one third of the food we consume. Though intervention by farmers is also required, there are steps that can be taken at the community level that both preserve the bee population and improve local neighbourhoods. The Hive is a framework for urban regeneration that improves quality of life in low-income Plymouth, UK neighbourhood while also working against the UK’s declining bee population. The solution was designed using IDEO methods and empathic research that address the issues of food safety, the declining bee population and urban regeneration.
